Each STORServer Backup Appliance is a fully integrated solution that includes industry-leading hardware, intuitive backup software and robust data protection technology. Each solution is built to specifications that not only meet current data protection demands, but are also scalable to meet ever-changing backup, archive and disaster recovery (DR) requirements.

STORServer Appliances are built on Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), the leader in data protection.  TSM has more than 20,000 loyal customers, including 60% of the Fortune 500.  IBM's TSM engine in the STORServer provides:

Competitors

Our competitors include all of the major providers of each component already included in a backup appliance (backup software, disk manufacturers, tape library manufacturers, and integrators) and a new batch of backup appliance companies that have cropped up over the past 5 years.  The Backup Appliance is the de facto go-to approach for mid-market customers looking for a total solution.  Many of the backup software manufacturers have now partnered with hardware providers to offer an integrated solution similar to the STORServer.

The hallmarks of the STORServer appliance solutions are turnkey implementation, simplicity of administration through automation, and improved uptime through a single point of support, delivered by highly qualified solutions engineers. In contrast, the competing individual hardware and software vendors, while successful in the high-end enterprise market, are rarely able to penetrate the middle-market with their confusing and costly products, implementations and service.  In recent years, however, lower-end down market appliance solutions have begun making inroads and are headed up-market.  Large players like EMC and Dell have entered the mid-sized market with attempts at packaged solutions competitive to the STORServer Backup Appliance.  STORServer’s innovative packaging model has come of age.
